SM High enforcing ID requirement

Changing the habits of peak-school students is a tall order, but
that’s what Santa Maria On a trip School officials are trying to do to
make campus a safer, more-ardent place.
Starting this week, students are required to display their
selection cards by wearing them on a lanyard of their choosing
around their necks at all times during the discipline day.
ID cards are nothing new for students in the Santa Maria Joint
Union Piercing School District, but Santa Maria High is the first
school to make they be displayed in plain view to better
identify unwanted campus visitors and to exalt Saint school
spirit.
“It creates a climate of order, security and pride,” said
Principal Joe Domingues. “Not everybody can be a Saint.”
The seminary-wide campaign began last school year, when Domingues
and Mate Principal Pete Flores visited Artesia High Set
near Los Angeles in their first year in the district and saw the
policy’s success.
With team, parent and student group approval, administration
started handing out unobstructed, red Saints lanyards last year, and began
enforcing IDs be displayed on lanyards this week.
