Hollywood is full of writers, producers and actors who've tried
their hands at have a role film directing, with varying degrees of
success. Stuntmen, not so much…which didn't give
Act of
Valor directors Scott Waugh and Mike "Mouse" McCoy—who both
grew up in the Santa Clarita, Calif. square footage—one moment's pause. In
fact, in retrospect the path to directing a hallmark film starring
real-life Navy SEALs looks as though it ran in a spruce up line from
their rough-and-tumble childhoods.
Waugh's father, longtime stuntman Fred M. Waugh (whose credits
tabulate the ’70s “Spider-Man” TV series), didn't expressly encourage
his son to follow in his footsteps. "He actively tried to steer me
away from the calling," Waugh says. "But I was one of the
kids who played every sport, was an avid skier, snowboarder,
skateboarder, you name it, and when I was 12, one of my dad's
